Game Day: RMU at Pitt

Short version today, since we’re still without power and things are left to be done. However, I will be at the game to provide coverage for you, so there’s that.

You should know all about your Robert Morris Colonials by now, and Pitt should be a familiar team as well. No DeJuan Blair, no Sam Young, no Levance Fields, but they do have Ashton Gibbs, Gilbert Brown, and Brad Wanamaker. Nasir Robinson and Russell Johnson will meet up for the first time since playing for Chester High School. And Mike Rice and Jamie Dixon will face off for the first time since last year.

Tip off is 8pm on FSN Pittsburgh and ESPN360.com

Local coverage: Eric Hall at the Beaver County Times, John Grupp from the Tribune-Review, and Mike Sanserino and Ray Fittipaldo from the Post-Gazette.

I tend to agree with Coach Rice. This game should be played in the nonconference portion of the season instead of the middle of a hotly contested conference race. It’s a nice check for the athletic department and the players like it because they can see how they stack up against a great team, but if they can’t get this game rescheduled for December, it’s better off scrapped. I’ll be happy if we can keep it within 10-15 points.

Hey Pierre (Brown) j/k! I agree as well. I also adamantly against those 2 early season games as well as the games where the teams play each other twice in a row. Pardon my french but it does blow. Hey Pitt beat RMU by 24 and beat the Mount by 18- during that horrid shooting section of the Mounts schedule. That ain’t right is it. A lot of wealthy season ticket holding Panther boosters told me that the game against the Mount was much closer than the score too. That part of the Mount’s schedule reminded me of the Ravens during their Super Bowl year- not scoring an offensive td for 5 straight games, lol. hey Andrew or anyone else, do you know how the scheduling will be next year in the NEC?

        Couple things…
I was at the Mount game and I think your Panther friends were being a little kind. Pitt really just toyed with the Mount as Dixon played with his lineups and combinations. Mount pulled close a couple times, but that was for only a brief period. There wasn’t a sustained period where they were in control of the game or even in the lead.
As far as the NEC schedule next year, no one knows right now. They’re going to process the feedback surrounding “rivalry week”, which is sure to be overwhelmingly negative, and they’ll go from there.
Finally, as far as Pitt/RMU goes next year, Dixon seemed open to trying to work it out to be in November/December. But they only have a handful of open spots and they do have the weird Big East scheduling where they have a 7-8 day layoff in between games. We’ll see. It’s not necessary that RMU plays Pitt – they’ll have WVU as a buy game, apparently – but it’s something the administration and coaching staff likes.
