Weekly Q+A

Gee, what could we possibly talk about this week?

- Robert Morris, your 2008-2009 NEC Regular Season Champions
- Jeremy Chappell, player of the year. Mike Rice, coach of the year. Bateko Francisco, defensive player of the year. Chappell, first team all-NEC. Rob Robinson, second team all-NEC.
- NEC Tournament Preview from the RMU perspective.
- Plenty of stuff in the PG today, too, including this piece on Rice’s potential future and Gene Collier’s opinion piece.

Have at it.

Great story by Colin Dunlap in the PPG about Coach Rice’s future. I like it that he doesn’t write vanilla stories like the old ones that always used to get written about RMU in that paper.

great story? are you kidding me? this team is going for its first NCAA bid in 17 years, and all the paper can talk about is what the future lies ahead for Rice? that’s not even a story on RMU basketball, it’s a story on Rice. You wanna bring that up, bring it up while we’re preparing for our first opponent in the big dance. right now, it should be all about saint francis new york. i’m not saying that rice isn’t a story, but at this time it shouldn’t even be mentioned.

Rice is gone and I thought it was a very good story. Rice is the reason the Colonials have gotten better and becuase the writer compared the past 3 coaches to what Rice’s record is I think it made the whole story because even if RMU doesn’t make the NCAA he is probably still gone.
While diehards might care, no one in Pittsburgh who is a college basketball fan really cares about St. Francis, ny. We need to think of big picture stuff and that is what the story was.

the story in the pg today is damn good. those are the kinds of stories the beaver county times or trib writers would never do. having all the data from the past three coaches compared to rice’s proved how newsworthy the story was.

well done! dunlap is waaaay better than meyer was.

As much as we don’t want to think about it, Coach Rice’s future at RMU is an important topic to discuss.

RMU is the kind of program that is a stepping stone for coaches looking to further their careers.

Assuming RMU can seal the deal and win the NEC, I don’t see him sticking around after this season. If we somehow can win a game in NCAA’s, he’s definitely gone. If RMU ends up at the NIT, he may stick around for one more year. But I agree that Coach Rice’s future here is a subject that needs to be thought about. And this is the time to think about it.

BTW, it was a very good article by Colin Dunlap. That articles like this are coming out is proof that Rice has increased RMU’s exposure in Pittsburgh.

Normally in this town, Pitt could go 0-28, RMU could go undefeated and win the NCAA’s and the next day’s headlines would be why Pitt stunk and RMU’s win would be buried on page 6.
